SAN ANTONIO (Feb. 24, 2022) – The Girls Empowerment Summit is a two-day event for girls aged 13-18 on March 11 and 12. The first day (Friday, March 11, 9am-1pm) is a virtual summit with sessions on social media awareness, healthy dating habits, mental health, and non-traditional career roles for women in STEM. The second day (Saturday, March 12, 9am-2pm) is in partnership with the San Antonio Fire Department to participate in the in-person Camp Hero Like Her® which educates and seeks to inspire young girls to consider a career in firefighting.

“Although we would love to have hundreds of girls gathered together for the 3rd Annual Girls Empowerment Summit, we are thrilled to have multiple watch parties in different parts of the cities where girls can take part in this virtual event,” commented Councilwoman Dr. Adriana Rocha, “With support of partner organizations who focus on serving girls in San Antonio like the Girls of Southwest Texas, Latinitas, Girls on the Run, Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Texas and countless others we hope to continue expanding opportunities where girls can grow and thrive as leaders.”

The virtual event will also feature a panel discussion with Women in STEM careers, moderated by Jennipha Ricks, the Founding Chief Learning Officer & Principal of Essence Preparatory Public School.

“The Girls Empowerment Summit has become an annual event that we’re excited to offer to residents,” said Deputy City Manager María Villagómez. “I am honored to work closely with so many local leaders to empower our community’s girls with the skills they need to be successful. I encourage all San Antonio girls to take part in this free, virtual leadership learning opportunity as well as the in-person day with the San Antonio Fire Department.”
