SAN ANTONIO (March 7, 2022) – The San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department invites citizens to comment on self-monitoring standards for its Summer Youth Program at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, March 28, 2022, at Municipal Plaza B Room, 114 W. Commerce.

The Summer Youth Program is offered at various school sites and 21 community centers from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays during the summer months. Children ages 6 to 12 at the school sites and 6 to 14 at the community centers participate in traditional sports, active games, craft projects, fitness activities, nutrition lessons, reading, and enrichment activities in math and science. They receive meals as part of the program provided by the City.

Self-monitoring is used in lieu of state licensing for municipal programs and is authorized by State Regulations of Child Care Facilities. Guidelines cover record keeping, staff qualifications, staffing ratios, responsibilities and training, safety procedures and emergency procedures. After receiving comment from the public, the Parks and Recreation Department will take the self-monitoring standards to the City Council for approval.
