- The city is testing out a new technology called cooling pavement. Texas summers are hot, without a doubt, and this scientific asphalt brings ground temperatures down by 10 to 12 degrees. The City of San Antonio reportedly "used equity and heat data to analyze census tracts, prioritizing densely populated areas with high scores for extreme heat, poverty levels and percentage of people of color." The goal is to help combat extreme heat in the present and years to come. FOX 29 has more on this story.
- Neighbors are banding together to stop the build of a modular home, in their brick-and-mortar majority. The neighbors feel disrespected and disregarded, and ultimately believe that the city should reinforce the deed restrictions set forth. Their neighborhood was originally established in the '60s for the first wave of African Americans that were allowed to obtain home mortgages. Visit KENS5 for the full story.
- A local law firm and South Texas Blood & Tissue call for blood donors. A blood drive will be hosted May 4 at 11 AM, to help fill blood donation shortages in the city. All blood types are needed; however, O blood types are needed the most. Their goal is to reach a 7-day blood surplus. Swag bags and freebies will be available for waiting donors.
