1. San Antonio honors Mission San Jose descendants with new public art (sacurrent.com) — San Antonio has installed a new 15-foot public sculpture called “Kindred” near Mission Road to honor Mission San Jose descendants and Indigenous heritage. Created by local artist Ashley Perez through the city’s bond program, the piece features symbolic imagery like a medicine wheel and crops, and was dedicated during Native American Heritage Month to highlight the community’s enduring connection to the land.
   

2. Study: An average of 7 guns stolen from vehicles each day in San Antonio in 2024, most taken from trucks and hotels (kens5.com) — San Antonio drivers are seeing an average of seven guns stolen from vehicles every day, with nearly 2,500 firearms taken in 2024, mostly from pickup trucks at hotels and busy shopping centers. A UTHealth Houston study using SAPD data highlights hotspots like The Rim, La Cantera, North Star Mall, and Alamo Ranch, and urges gun owners to stop leaving weapons in their cars.
   

3. Deputy shot in east side standoff shares gratitude (news4sanantonio.com) — A Bexar County Precinct 4 deputy constable shot in the chest during an east side San Antonio standoff is already walking and thanking the community for its support. Deputy Darell Ward and fellow deputies say training and teamwork helped them survive the eviction call, while the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office now leads the investigation and the suspect remains hospitalized.
   

4. Spurs, Methodist Healthcare, Bruce Bowen brighten holidays with Christmas tree donation event (star-telegram.com) — San Antonio families received more than 150 free decorated Christmas trees and wreaths this week thanks to the Spurs, Methodist Healthcare, and former Spur Bruce Bowen. The giveaway is part of the team’s “Season of Giving,” with another Elf Louise Special Deliveries event coming soon at the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort and Spa, where players will hand-deliver gifts and Spurs swag to children.
   

5. BUA hosts Called to Ministry retreat (baptiststandard.com) — A recent Called to Ministry retreat at Baptist University of the Américas in San Antonio brought Texas Baptist youth together to explore faith callings through workshops and worship. Local leaders, including Trinity Baptist Church children’s pastor Debbie Potter and Alamo Heights Baptist Church pastor Bobby Contreras, encouraged students to trust God’s plan and pursue ministry in their churches and communities.
