Saving on Meals: Shake Shack Chicken Combo, McDonald’s App Deals

In a tight economy, I am always keeping an eye out to save money on meals. Following are some deals and suggestions.

Shake Shack Shakes Up Its Prices (but Only for a Short Time)

Shake Shack is an expanding fast casual chain that is offering some darn good burgers, chicken sandwiches, fries, and milkshakes. The problem is that they can be quite pricey, getting into Five Guy’s territory. I like Shake Shack enough that I still go on a regular basis, but it is more of a splurge for me than a regular stop.

However, I just noticed a limited-time deal they are offering that is too good to pass up. You can get their chicken sandwich along with their classic fries and a small drink for $9.99. That is definitely a good deal considering the sandwich itself goes for $7.99 in my area and it is clucking good. Unfortunately they don’t have a spicy version of their sandwich on the regular menu, but you can add jalapenos for 49 cents to kick it up some.

As is typical of this type of deal, you have to order through their website, app, or automated kiosk. And to get the discount, you have to enter the code CHICKEN. This deal is only good through March 15th, though, so make plans to stop by the Shack at some point over the next week. You can check for a location near you at their website.

App Deals: McDonalds

Fast food does not seem like cheap food these days, but if you search the apps from the various chains, you can find some pretty good deals. McDonald’s is one in particular that I rely on pretty regularly for a meal that is quick and inexpensive. For breakfast, you can get an Egg McMuffin (the classic breakfast sandwich!) or one of their McGriddles (also quite good) for two bucks through the app. Or if you are looking for a quick and cheap lunch or dinner, their McChicken Sandwich (which is not bad for a budget sandwich) is only $1.99 (and they have the spicy version of that available from time to time) or the Double Cheeseburger (a favorite of mine) is $2.99. As a bonus, they offer a large order of fries for a buck with any purchase which is actually a fair amount of food for three to four dollars (note that these prices vary by region). So if I am looking for a cheap breakfast or lunch on the go, the Golden Arches is often one of the first places I check.
