Khalifa, 31, whose real name is Cameron Jibril Thomaz, was born in North Dakota to military parents who were stationed round the world. He lived in Europe and Asia as a child before settling in Pittsburgh, where he went to high school. The artist considers Pittsburgh his hometown and often sings about the city.

The rapper has been nominated for 10 Grammy awards in his accomplished career, most recently in 2015 for his song, “See You Again.” The track was commissioned for the blockbuster film, “Furious 7,” and was to honor the late actor Paul Walker, who was killed in a car crash in November 2013.
