Baby Formula Recall Issued For Garden Of Life Product

The company says the instructions on the formula may be "misinterpreted," which could cause a choking hazard.

NEW YORK, NY — The company Garden of Life has issued a voluntary recall for its product, "Baby Organic Liquid," the Food and Drug Administration announced this week. Anyone who recently purchased the project is advised to return the product to where it was purchased.

Though all the ingredients in the formula are safe for infants, the company said, it is worried that the instructions on the product may be "misinterpreted." If used incorrectly, the formula poses a choking hazard. (For more national stories, subscribe to the Across America Patch to receive daily newsletters and breaking news alerts.)

The packaging reads: "Do not insert syringe directly in mouth. Dispense liquid slowly into the mouth, toward the inner cheek. May be mixed with breast milk or formula."

Garden of Life is now advising, however, that parents should not administer the liquid into a child's mouth at all. Because the liquid is so thick, babies could potentially choke on the formula.

Instead of giving it to babies directly, Garden of Life recommends mixing it into other breast milk or formula. Babies can then drink the thinner formula.

Baby Organic Liquid comes in a blue carton.

"This recall arose after learning that a parent had difficulties with the safe administration of the product into a newborn’s mouth," the company said in a press release.
