WASHINGTON, DC — Federal health officials are warning that a raw beef product that could be contaminated with plastic, and that were sold at select Aldi stores nationwide.

The raw beef was produced July 25 and could be contaminated with "extraneous material, specifically soft, clear plastic," the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service said in a news release.

So far, no reports of injuries or illnesses have been reported.

The product came in roughly 1 1/2-pound trays with the label:"USDA CHOICE BLACK ANGUS BEEF FROM ALDI, BEEF FOR CARNE PICADA." The packages have a use or freeze by date of Aug. 22, a Julian Date 206, and time stamp between 08:43 through 09:23.

The beef also has an establishment number Est. 85M on the back label.

"FSIS is issuing this public health alert to ensure that consumers are aware that this product should not be consumed," the agency wrote. "A recall was not requested because the product is no longer available for purchase."

Food regulators said they're worried people may have the product stored in refrigerators or freezers. Consumers should throw out the beef or return it to the store.
