Good morning! It's Thursday, which means the end of the week is just around the corner. It's also the last day of summer. Here's what you need to know to start your day.

California Sues The Trump Administration

Before funding for the border wall has even been found, California Attorney General Xavier Becerra is suing the Trump administration for its plans to waive federal and state regulations in its attempt to fulfil the president's signature campaign promise. Becerra said he filed a complaint in federal court in San Diego that alleges legal and constitutional violations. "The border between the U.S. and Mexico spans some 2,000 miles — the list of laws violated by the president's administration in order to build this campaign wall is almost as long," Becerra said. Puerto Rico Suffers Hurricane Maria's Wrath

Hurricane Maria tore roofs off homes and rained debris across the island of Puerto Rico Wednesday — and now the entire island has been left without power by the strongest storm to hit the island in more than 80 years. The onslaught could plunge the already-strained U.S. territory deeper into financial crisis. Maria left at least nine people dead across the Caribbean, making landfall in the morning in the southeast coastal town of Yabucoa as a Category 4 storm with winds of 155 mph. (Patch)

Most States Will Lose Out Under New GOP Health Care Proposal

In a last-ditch attempt to overhaul the American health care system and at least partially fulfill their promise to “repeal and replace Obamacare,” Republicans are rushing forward to try to pass new legislation by a Sept. 30 deadline. It would cut $215 billion from the federal spending on health insurance by 2026, according to a study released Wednesday. The Congressional Budget Office was given no chance to estimate how many people would lose health coverage under the proposal, but most estimates place the number in the tens of millions. (Patch)
