Texas Teen Fighting For His Life From Brain-Eating Amoeba
A Houston honor student contracted the rare parasite after swimming in a local lake.

A teenager from Houston is suffering from a rare brain-eating disease from swimming in a lake about 70 miles north of Houston, according to KTRK ABC 13.
Michael Riley, Jr., 14, who is a three-time junior Olympian and honor student at Cy Ridge High School is being treated at Texas Children’s Hospital.
“Coming from a lake, you might think maybe you’d get an ear infection, something like that,” his father, Mike Riley, told KTRK. “You wouldn’t think that going to the doctor’s office that they’d tell you your son only has a couple days to live, which is what they told us.”
