PLANO, TX — Vehicle manufacturer Toyota has issued a major safety recall for nearly half a million of its full-size pickup trucks in the U.S. due to a major defect.

The recall affects approximately 443,000 Toyota Tundra and Tundra Hybrid vehicles from model years 2022 through 2025, the company announced Wednesday.

The issue centers on the trucks’ reverse lamp assemblies. A design flaw allows moisture to intrude over time, potentially causing both reverse lights to fail.

If the reverse lights stop working, drivers may not have adequate visibility when backing up in dark conditions, and other drivers or pedestrians may not realize the vehicle is moving in reverse.

"This can increase the risk of a crash," Toyota said.

What Toyota Will Do

Toyota said it will begin notifying affected vehicle owners by mid-July 2025. At that point, dealers will:

  • Replace both reverse lamp assemblies with newly designed, improved versions.
  • Inspect and repair the wiring harness if corrosion is found in the connector (also free)

This recall applies to vehicles sold nationwide and includes both standard and hybrid versions of the Tundra, one of Toyota’s most popular and durable truck models.

What Owners Should Do

Toyota owners can check whether their vehicle is included in the recall by visiting Toyota’s recall lookup tool or calling the Toyota Customer Experience Center at 1-800-331-4331.

Even if no warning lights or dashboard alerts are active, Toyota urges drivers to take this recall seriously, especially if their vehicle is from the affected model years.
