As of Friday morning, wind is blowing the smoke toward the west and depositing ash on the ground in some communities in the South Bay area.
"The safety of students and school staff is of the utmost importance to San Diego County school districts," the Office of Education said.
The Border 2 Fire has burned 6,273 acres, forced evacuation orders and warnings, and prompted road and school closures.
The blaze broke out Thursday afternoon. Authorities issued and expanded evacuation orders and warnings Friday.
The Gilman Fire broke out Thursday afternoon. Evacuations were ordered but quickly lifted as crews got the upper hand on the fire.
Authorities ordered evacuations in the surrounding areas.
The blaze, called the Border 2 Fire, was burning in the area of Otay Mountain Truck Trail, according to Cal Fire.
Patch talked with Azul Diaz, a 19-year-old skater from Chula Vista who is ready to shine bright in Magic in the Stars.
"If fire ignition occurs, conditions are favorable for rapid fire spread and extreme fire behavior," the NWS said.
"The safety of students and school staff is of the utmost importance to San Diego County school districts," the Office of Education said.
SDG&E opened community resource centers to assist affected communities.
The Bernardo Fire broke out Wednesday morning.
The blaze broke out at Bernardo Center Drive and Camino del Norte, near Interstate 15, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
This year marks the 35th anniversary of the prestigious culinary awards, sometimes known as the "Oscars of food."
The San Diego County Sheriff's Office lifted all evacuation orders and warnings at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
A red flag warning was extended until 8 p.m. Thursday for the county's inland valleys and mountains, according to the NWS.
The Lilac Fire broke out early Tuesday morning.
The San Diego Police Department issued evacuation orders and warnings for nearby areas.
The Lilac Fire was the first of three fires that sparked early Tuesday morning amid extreme fire weather conditions.
