Police Arrest Suspect Following Report of Domestic Assault Involving a Firearm (mynbc5.com) — Burlington Police arrested a man on Buell Street after a reported domestic assault where a firearm was present, prompting a perimeter, help from state and UVM police, and temporary street and sidewalk closures. The victim was able to leave the home safely, and the suspect later surrendered peacefully and is due in court December 22.

Iona Gaels Rally Past Vermont for Thrilling 83-78 Road Victory (talkofthesound.com) — A packed Patrick Gym in Burlington saw Vermont fall 83–78 after Iona stormed back from a 10-point second‑half deficit, despite a 24-point effort from Catamount big man Gus Yalden. The Gaels shot over 54% from the field and closed out the game at the free‑throw line, handing UVM a tough home loss.
3. Last weekend before Christmas; shoppers pack University Mall (wcax.com) — If you’re still hunting for gifts, University Mall in South Burlington and Burlington’s Church Street Marketplace were jammed with last-minute shoppers and busy local vendors this weekend. Businesses say the crowds are a welcome boost after a challenging year, but warn that some big stores are already running low on popular items just three days before Christmas.
4. This Day in History: December 20, 1999, and 1980 (wcax.com) — From Burlington, this historical look-back revisits Vermont’s landmark 1999 Baker v. Vermont ruling, which required equal benefits for same-sex couples and helped launch civil unions. It also recalls the devastating 1980 fire at Stowe’s Trapp Family Lodge, where one guest died and several were injured before a new lodge was built.
