Annandale Spring Carnival Returns June 6

The annual carnival will include rides and games for kids of all ages and other family entertainment.

The 63rd annual Annandale Spring Carnival, which will feature games, rides, food and local entertainment, will open to the community on June 6 and last through June 16.

Sponsored by the Annandale Chamber of Commerce and run by Reithoffer Shows, the carnival will return to its previous location in the Kmart parking lot this year.

When it opened in 1950, the carnival was held on the property that is now Giant Food. The carnival moved to the property that now holds Kmart and the Kmart owners allowed the Chamber to continue hosting it in the parking lot. Last year, the carnival briefly relocated to the AMF Bowling Lanes parking lot.

The move back to Kmart is especially fitting as the carnival will also celebrate its 50th anniversary at that location.

"The carnival is really a part of our cultural and community heritage," said Vicki Burman, Executive Director for the Chamber of the carnival's significance to Annandale.

The cost of admission to the carnival is $2 per adult and $1 for children. Half-price admission coupons and free ride tickets are available at ProMAXX Fitness, Burger King, Quizno's, PETCO, Pho Hot restaurant, Burke & Herbert Bank, the Annandale Boys and Girls Club and other stores in the Annandale Shopping Center.

All of the proceeds go to benefit the Virginia Special Olympics and help the Chamber fund Annandale community events such as the holiday tree lighting and more.

"Those [communiity] events really wouldn't be possible without those funds," said Burman.

The carnival's hours of operation are Monday-Thursday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., Friday from 5 p.m. to 12 a.m., Saturday from 12 p.m. to 12 a.m. and Sunday from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Parking will be available in the Kmart parking lot.
