FAIRFAX CITY, VA -- Fairfax City will rename an open field known as "The Bowl" in June at Van Dyck Park for Armistice Turtora, the first chair, in 1969, of the City of Fairfax Parks & Recreation Board. The area will be known as Armistic Turtora Field.
She has been actively involved in the community throughout her more than 50 years in the City serving on the Country Club Hills Civic Association in a number of roles including president. Turtora was instrumental in the establishment of PRAB, serving as its first chair in 1969. In 2005, she joined the Commission on the Arts, where she has served for the past 10 years.
The City Council approved a resolution in November renaming the park area in her honor; the public is invited to come and celebrate with Turtora Saturday, June 11 at 4 p.m. at the park. The park is located at 3720 Old Lee Highway (see map below).
