'Fashion NoVA' With Redskins Cheerleaders, Free Safety ID Kits for the Kids, Book Club Conference and More

Can’t get enough of fashion? This Saturday, Sept. 7, Northern Virginia Magazine hosts Fashion NoVA, a high-energy, family-friendly show featuring complimentary hors d'oeuvres from Fairfax Corner restaurants, swag bags filled with goodies, raffle prize giveaways, and fall fashions from your favorite shops and local designers. Also, meet the Redskins cheerleaders and get autographs! It all takes place from 12-3 p.m. at Fairfax Corner. For more information, read the event listing here on Patch.

 

The City of Fairfax Police Department, in conjunction with the Optimist Club of Fairfax, will be offering Safe Assured identification kits for children on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the City of Fairfax Police Headquarters, located at 3730 Old Lee Highway. Parents will receive a full-color photo ID and a mini-CD that contains digital fingerprints, a digital photo, video showing movement and mannerisms, a general physical description, vital personal information, and a family code word. Private information is encrypted and can be accessed only by law enforcement personnel. Missing person posters can be created and printed directly from the CD in English, Spanish and French. Want to build a good credit history for future purchases such as a home, a new car, a student loan or others? Fairfax-based nonprofit Our Daily Bread will host a free class called “To Your Credit,” coming up on Saturday, Sept. 14, 12:30-2 p.m, at George Mason Regional Library, 7001 Little River Turnpike in Annandale. Attendees will learn how to build and maintain a better credit history, address challenges with their credit, and read a credit report. Registration is required. Are you a member of a book club or a book club organizer? Or, would you like to be? This Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Fairfax County will host a Book Club Conference at the County Government Center, 12000 Government Center Parkway in Fairfax. Join book club members from around the area to learn more about starting, running and enhancing book clubs, while networking with fellow readers. Topics for break-out groups will include how to choose a great book, and running a successful book club meeting. The special keynote speaker will be Will Schwalbe, author of the book The End of Your Life Book Club. Lunch will be provided. This conference is co-sponsored by the Fairfax Library Foundation and the Friends of the Reston Regional Library. For more information or to register for this event, click here.
