Route 50 to Close at Night

Motorists planning to travel Route 50 by night in the next two weeks may want to seek alternate routes.

All lanes (east and west) under the Capital Beltway in Merrifield will close for bridge beam placement, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation. This will start Thursday at 9:30 p.m. and last until Feb. 22.

Lanes will reopen every morning by 5 (weekdays), 7 (Saturday) and 9 (Sunday).

Detours:

• All eastbound traffic and eastbound traffic exiting to Interstate 495 north: Detour to Gallows Road, to Lee Highway, to Fairview Park Drive and back to Route 50.
• All westbound traffic and westbound traffic exiting to I-495 south: Detour to Fairview Park Drive, to Lee Highway, to Gallows and back to Route 50.
