Alexandria Man Buys Winning $100K Lottery Ticket At Kingstowne Giant
Augustus Alvarez, an accountant, bought the winning 10X the Money lottery ticket at the Giant Food on Kingstowne Boulevard in Kingstowne.

KINGSTOWNE, VA — Augustus Alvarez was still in shock when he claimed his $100,000 prize from the Virginia Lottery.
Alvarez, an accountant, purchased the winning 10X the Money lottery ticket at the Giant Food on Kingstowne Boulevard in Kingstowne. He scratched the ticket while still in the store, where he found out he had won, the Virginia Lottery said Friday.
This is the second top prize ticket claimed in 10X the Money lottery game, which means 19 more tickets remain unclaimed.

The 10X the Money game is one of dozens of scratchers available from the Virginia Lottery. It features prizes ranging from $5 to $100,000. The odds of winning the game’s top prize are 1 in 1,713,600, and the odds of winning any prize are 1 in 4.48.
Alvarez, who said he couldn’t sleep the night before claiming the $100,000 prize, told the Virginia Lottery that he might buy a new car with his winnings.

All Virginia Lottery profits go to K-12 education in Virginia. Alexandria received more than $4.7 million in lottery funds for K-12 education last fiscal year. In fiscal year 2022, the lottery raised more than $779 million for K-12 education, making up approximately 10 percent of Virginia’s total K-12 school budget.
