Fairfax 2015 World Police & Fire Games LOC Distributes Legacy Funds to Participating Non-Profits
Local World Police & Fire Games Committee, Fairfax 2015, distributes legacy funds to participating non-profits.

FAIRFAX, VA - Having closed its books on last summer’s highly successful World Police & Fire Games earlier this year, local organizing committee, Fairfax 2015, is now in the process of distributing more than $200,000 in surplus funds to various 501c3 non-profit entities led by its four Legacy Partners.
Selected prior to the Games in conjunction with one of the event’s core objectives of making impactful contributions to deserving organizations, the four Games Legacy Partners include:- The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund
- The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation
- The Fairfax County Valor Awards Scholarship Fund
- The Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation
Distributions began last Friday when Fairfax 2015 presented a $40,000 donation to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. This morning a $40,000 donation was presented to the Fairfax County Valor Awards Scholarship Fund at the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce (Photo), and tomorrow the organization will deliver another $40,000 to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. That presentation will take place at NLEOMF offices at 9:30am.

The final Legacy Partner donation of $35,000 to the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation is yet to be scheduled. These funds have been designated by the Foundation to provide sporting equipment to select Fairfax County schools.
“Fairfax 2015 is pleased and privileged to be able to recognize and support the efforts of each of our long-term Legacy Partners,” said Fairfax 2015 Chairman, Kevin Reynolds. “We want to thank all those involved with the Games for their hard work and dedication in making the Games a success and allowing us this opportunity to support these exceptional organizations.”

Fairfax CEO Bill Knight added “The mission of 2015 Games was to honor and celebrate our public safety heroes who serve and protect us every day, and these contributions are intended to be helpful to organizations or causes near and dear to those same individuals.”
In addition to the contributions earmarked for Legacy Partners, Fairfax 2015 will also make the following donations:
- $15,000 to the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Charitable Foundation
- $15,000 for Youth Sports Scholarships in Fairfax County to be escrowed in a restricted fund by the Fairfax County Park Foundation for the sole purpose of supporting existing youth sports scholarship programs under the auspices of Neighborhood and Community Programs.
- $15,000 for Games legacy projects to be escrowed in a restricted fund by Visit Fairfax for the sole purpose of establishing a legacy component in the new public safety building (under construction) and for Fairfax athletes’ participation in future Games.
“On behalf of colleagues in the Fairfax County Police Department, the Office of the Sheriff, and Fairfax County Fire & Rescue, we are thrilled that the success of the 2015 Games has allowed us to leave a legacy through the support of these organizations,” said Fairfax County Fire Chief, Richard Bowers. “The spirit of the Games will live on through their good work.”
