Lake Accotink Park To Hold Cleanup Competition For High School Teams

Friends of Lake Accotink Park is hosting a quarterly clean-up competition for Fairfax County high schools on Sunday, Nov. 27.

SPRINGFIELD, VA — Friends of Lake Accotink Park is hosting a quarterly clean-up competition for Fairfax County high schools on Sunday, Nov. 27.

Volunteers will comb 497 acres at the park to collect trash within a two-hour limit. The high school team that collects the most trash from the park will win a pizza party. Friends of Lake Accotink Park also plans to honor an annual winner of the trash cleanup competition.

“Removing these harmful pollutants from the waterways and land not only improve the environment's health but also the health of our wildlife,” Friends of Lake Accotink Park said.

The quarterly clean-up competition for FCPS high schools will take place on Sunday, Nov. 27 from noon to 2 p.m. Volunteers should meet at Lake Accotink Park Marina at 7500 Accotink Park Rd. in Springfield.

Schools should email youngflappers@flapaccotink.org to participate in the competition.
