- This Sunday is the perfect opportunity to take advantage of the weather and participate in Black history events around Northern Virginia. A mural was unveiled on the wall of the Loudoun museum last month; you can explore with Leesburg self-guided tours through an app, and much more. - On Jan. 11, instructional assistant Fouzia Masood Khan at Saratoga Elementary School in nearby Springfield was accused by a school employee of dragging a student down the hallway by the arm. The employee who saw the act alerted school administrators, and the Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) was notified on Jan. 13 and began investigating. On Thursday, Feb. 16, FCPD detectives received a warrant and served Khan a summons for a simple assault. Specialists have been assigned to ensure the victim receives proper assistance throughout the case. (Patch)

- Members of Virginia Task Force 1 returned home to Fairfax County after participating in a search and rescue mission in Turkey, as part of the U.S. Agency for International Development's deployment of two U.S. groups trained to extract people trapped under rubble, following an earthquake that hit the country. The Fairfax County team returned on Feb. 20 after an 11-day deployment. (Kingstowne Patch via Facebook)
- Congratulations to Master Technician Ryan McGill for receiving the 2022 Governor's Fire Service Award at the Virginia Fire Chiefs Association's Virginia Fire Rescue Conference in Virginia Beach.
