Where To Find Cooling Centers Around Fairfax County
Fairfax County has designated cooling centers to help beat the heat during high temperatures and throughout the summer.
FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — With high heat index values expected over several days, Fairfax County has designated cooling centers to help residents cool off.
While other parts of the region are under a heat advisory, Northern Virginia still faces high temperatures above 90 degrees Tuesday and Wednesday. According to the National Weather Service, the heat index values for Fairfax could surpass 100 degrees on Wednesday.
Cooling centers can help residents who don't have access to air conditioning or simply need to get out of the sun to avoid heat-related illnesses. During extreme heat and humidity conditions, there is a possibility of heat-related illness such as heat exhaustion and cramps, or heat stroke in severe cases.
