Here are the top three stories in Lynchburg today:
- An ATV rider died in Amherst County over the weekend after a crash. According to officials, crews received a call near 2:00 p.m. on Saturday to the South Pedlar ATV Trail System in nearby Elon. A medevac landed on a nearby bridge to airlift the injured to the trauma center. Unfortunately, the rider did not survive his injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene. (WDBJ)
- On the docket at this week's Lynchburg City Council meeting is a city-wide curfew for minors. There has been an uptick in recent criminal activity caused by juveniles, according to officials. Many community members wonder how effective the curfew will be if passed, especially because schools will let out for the summer in the weeks to come. Those interested should stay tuned after the meeting on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. (Subscription: Lynchburg News and Advance)
- Planet Fitness made a generous donation to the Lynchburg Fire Department (LFD), providing them with nine treadmills, an elliptical machine, two Arc trainers, and three step climbers. The fire department plans to incorporate this new fitness equipment into its existing collection across its eight fire stations and administration building. LFD expressed gratitude to Darryl Dubose of Station 2 for organizing the donation and praised Planet Fitness for its outstanding community partnership. (WSET)
