The pilot could save students about $40,000, while the university continues working through accreditation warnings and broader financial restructuring.

Lynchburg behavioral health docket forms advisory council for community input (wset.com) — Lynchburg’s Behavioral Health Docket has created a new advisory council to bring community expertise into how the court handles low-level offenses tied to mental health. With the program already at capacity and early graduates avoiding reoffending, officials say the council will help improve treatment, public safety, and use of taxpayer resources.
   

3. WATCH: Lynchburg City Schools celebrate 160 years (wsls.com) — Lynchburg City Schools just marked 160 years of public education with a plaque unveiling that highlights the district’s 1865 founding and the start of the city’s school system. Leaders say the new marker is meant to deepen students’ pride in Lynchburg’s history while reinforcing the traditions they hope to build on for the future.
   

4. Virginia banks donate $15,000 to support programs for youth in Roanoke, Lynchburg (wvva.com) — Lynchburg families could soon see more childcare options as HumanKind uses a $10,000 donation to nearly double capacity at its Early Head Start facility, addressing local “childcare desert” neighborhoods. The same gift package sends $5,000 to support an after-school program in Roanoke and adds new financial education offerings for participating students and families.
   

5. Man pleads guilty to credit card skimming at Virginia Walmarts (wset.com) — A man has been sentenced in Lynchburg to 10 months in jail after admitting he installed credit card skimmers at Walmart stores, including the Wards Road location. Local prosecutors say federal investigators delayed turning over key reports and declined to provide an expert witness, prompting a plea deal. The defendant still faces related charges in several surrounding Virginia localities.
