  1. Diabetes during pregnancy has risen 27 percent in the last five years and rates are climbing in Lynchburg. Being diagnosed with diabetes before and during pregnancy can impact fetal growth, chance of stillbirth, excess amniotic fluid, and increased risk of preeclampsia. Studies show that obesity is also on the rise throughout Virginia and the United States and that is likely the cause of diabetes. If you believe you may be at risk for diabetes, having A1C values checked can help ensure a safer pregnancy. (Inside NoVA)
  2. Over 400 Canadian wildfires are causing an orange sky across Virginia. Strong winds have brought smoke throughout the state, producing unusual red and orange colors over the sun and atmosphere. Despite the smoky haze, the air quality in Virginia is still considered "good." (WSET)
  3. Looking to recycle old electronics or hazardous household waste? Drop off those items for free at the Concord Turnpike Convenience Center on Jun. 10, from 8:00 a.m to 12:00 p.m. Small items should be placed in the trunk of your vehicle in a non-returnable container. Fill out this form and bring it with you along with a valid photo ID. See the complete list of acceptable items here. (WSET)
