  1. Lynchburg bakery owner Tarsha Joyner is a contestant on the national TV show "Crime Scene Kitchen." The owner of Mrs. Joy’s Absolutely Fabulous Treats is on the show with her daughter, and the pair have to recreate recipes from a series of clues for a chance to win $100,000. Joyner is also currently in the running to be awarded "Best Chef" by the James Beard Foundation — you can vote for her here. (WSLS 10)
  2. A local group entitled Safe Schools Lynchburg is launching a pilot school safety project in partnership with Lynchburg City Schools and the Lynchburg Police Department. The group is raising funds to install security film on windows at E. C. Glass High School, which is expected to serve as a defense mechanism that increases how long it would take a perpetrator to enter the building. You can donate to the pilot project here. (WSET)
  3. United Way of Central Virginia recently announced its new Nonprofit Incubator Program, which hopes to provide nonprofit startups with guidance and resources. Beginning Saturday, Jul. 1, four incubator offices in United Way's building will be offered to qualified nonprofits at subsidized fees of $150-$350 per month, including private offices and meeting room access, mentorship, marketing and grant writing assistance, and networking opportunities.   • In the upcoming school year, T.C. Miller Elementary School will welcome a new Principal Christen Rhodes. Rhodes has been serving as E.C. Glass High School's assistant principal and has over 20 years of education experience. (WFXR)
  • Avery Neaves, outfielder for the Lynchburg Hornets, is transferring to the College of Charleston next season to play D1. During his time with the Hornets, Neaves earned three All-America awards and was named the 2022 ODAC Player of the Year. (WSET)
  • On Aug. 5, Lynchburg Parks and Recreation will host a kayaking event for paddlers with previous kayaking experience. Participants will kayak 10 miles on the James River from Riveredge Park to the Joshua Falls boat ramp, guided by two American Canoe Association certified instructors. Register here by Aug. 1.
