- Lynchburg Grows is set to receive $100,000 in grants to help evolve a vacant historic building into a multi-purpose space, while the Academy Center of the Arts will receive $50,000 to help create a new program called "Opening Minds through Art." The 2023 grant winners of the Century Fund and "Fifty Fund" were announced by the Greater Lynchburg Community Foundation as part of the almost $31 million that the foundation has made to area nonprofits since 1972. - The Lynchburg Public Library's Summer Food Service Program is back and bigger this year. Through the program, children in the community are able to receive free nutritious meals throughout the summer at the library or at a variety of other locations across the city. Every Wednesday, the library also includes a free mini farmers market and a youth education program called “Summer Foods Summer Moves." You can find more information about the program on the library's website. (Subscription: Lynchburg News and Advance)
- As rain continues to accumulate this week, there is a higher risk of flooding in the area. The highest risk for flooding will likely take place just east of the Blue Ridge due to runoff from the mountains. Expect roadways, streams, creeks, and low spots with poor drainage to accumulate water in the next few days. (WSET)
