1.3M Virginians Loathe Their Jobs, New Survey Reveals
Nationally, only 14 percent of U.S. employees are working in their dream careers, according to a new survey by CardRates.com.
VIRGINIA — If you dread getting up and going to work each day, you may be among the more than 1.3 million Virginians who loathe their job, according to a new survey.
Credit advice website CardRates.com recently surveyed 3,000 employees from various job markets across the United States to determine how many people are actually living out their dream careers.
It turns out that only 14 percent of American workers are in the career they wanted as a kid, while 59 million employees openly admitted to loathing their jobs, according to the survey.

In Virginia, 30 percent of the workforce said they loathe their jobs, which equates to 1,336,546 people.
The survey asked respondents to reveal the most significant obstacles they faced when pursuing a dream career:

- Financial limitations: 35%
- Lack of opportunities: 34%
- Family commitments: 22%
- Academic challenges: 7%
- Market demand: 2%
Despite feeling unhappy with their current jobs, two-thirds of respondents said they would still consider switching jobs to chase those childhood dreams, according to the survey.
