Amazon Fresh Store In Manassas Set To Close After Less Than 3 Years

MANASSAS, VA — The Amazon Fresh location in Manassas, which Prince William County said was the largest in the U.S. when it opened in June 2022, is preparing to close its doors.

The store at 7807 Sudley Road in Manassas will close after the last day on Sunday, March 16. Amazon Fresh is planning to support employees with the transition of the store closing.

“Certain store locations work better than others, and after an assessment of our offering we’ve decided to close our Amazon Fresh store in Manassas," an Amazon spokesperson said in a statement to Patch. "Customers in the area can continue to shop from a wide selection of grocery products at Amazon.com/grocery with same-day delivery options, or from our other Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods Market stores in the area. We remain committed to Amazon Fresh and our broader grocery strategy, and will continue to refine our portfolio of stores as we learn which locations and features resonate most with customers."

Aside from the Manassas location, Amazon Fresh has five locations in Northern Virginia, and all Whole Foods locations in the D.C. region and beyond are owned by Amazon as well.

Despite the closing, Amazon is planning to open more Whole Foods stores and will be selective about new Amazon Fresh locations. The latest Amazon Fresh opening will be in Silver Spring, Maryland on March 27. The Amazon Fresh brand has brought a new store design to new and existing stores. The latest Whole Foods opened in Falls Church in early February at the new Broad & Washington development. The store is replacing an older Whole Foods store down Route 7 between Falls Church and Tysons.

The Amazon Fresh store is in the Sudley Road corridor of Manassas. Prince William County recently announced it was working on an initiative with the Urban Land Institute and the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments to seek improvements for the corridor. The county said recommendations will guide a small area plan to map out long-term redevelopment and investment goals.
