Expansion Of Manassas Micron Facility Gets Proposed Federal Funds
U.S. Department of Commerce funding is proposed for Micron to help stabilize the supply chain through chip manufacturing for cars.

MANASSAS, VA — The Manassas location of memory chip manufacturer Micron is receiving up to $275 million in federal funding to expand, the City of Manassas announced Thursday.
The U.S. Department of Commerce proposed the funding to upgrade and expand the Manassas facility at 9600 Godwin Drive. The proposed upgrade project would add Micron's 1-alpha technology, which is an advanced kind of Dynamic Random Access Memory processing technology that improves bit density, power efficiency and performance capability.
The Manassas facility specializes in memory products typically provided to automotive, networking and industrial markets. The U.S. Department of Commerce says supporting Micron's 1-alpha technology will improve the resiliency of the supply chain, as Dynamic Random Access Memory chips are key parts of the auto and industrial markets. Chip shortages caused supply chain disruptions for new vehicles during the COVID-19 pandemic.
