Pharmaceutical Manufacturer Expanding At Manassas Location

A pharmaceutical company is adding new manufacturing lines at its location in the Manassas area of Prince William County.

MANASSAS, VA — A pharmaceutical company specializing in generic brand drugs is expanding operations at its packaging and distribution facility opened in 2023 in the Manassas area.

Granules Consumer Health, which is a subsidiary of Granules India, is investigating $1.5 million to add new manufacturing lines at its facility at 7413 Cushing Road in the Manassas area of Prince William County. The company initially invested $12.5 million to open the facility. The expansion will come with 99 new jobs.

"We are excited to partner with Prince William County and to have chosen Manassas as home for our new packaging facility," said Dr. Krishna Prasad Chigurupati, chairman and managing director of Granules India Limited. "Since its opening in early 2023, we have nearly doubled our workforce by hiring local talent. This is a big step forward for us, and we are glad to be growing alongside the community."

Granules Consumer Health makes generic drug products designed to be safe and cost-effective alternatives to brand-name drugs. According to the company, the expansion at the Manassas facility will boost manufacturing capabilities for over-the-counter drugs such as acetaminophen, ibuprofen and more.

"When we welcomed Granules to the Commonwealth in 2022, we knew we were bringing best-in-class to Virginia," said Gov. Glenn Youngkin in a statement. "Nearly two years later, Granules' decision to expand their operations reinforces Virginia's position as a cutting-edge hub for advanced pharmaceutical manufacturing. This investment not only creates 99 new jobs, but underscores the Commonwealth's commitment to supporting businesses that drive innovation in healthcare and life sciences."

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership worked with Prince William County to locate the facility there. Former Gov. Ralph Northam had approved a matching $200,000 grant from the Commonwealth’s Opportunity Fund to assist Prince William County secure the new facility. The job creation component is supported by the state-funded Virginia Jobs Investment Program, which provides consulting and funding to companies creating new jobs to support employee recruitment and training activities.

"This development not only strengthens our local economy but also provides our workforce with more high-quality jobs," said Deshundra Jefferson, chair of the Prince William Board of County Supervisors. "We are proud the Virginia Jobs Investment Program continues to invest in our community, further solidifying Prince William County as a premier destination for businesses seeking a competitive edge."
