Sonia Vasquez Luna To Seek Re-Election To Manassas City Council In 2026
Three Manassas City Council seats will be on the ballot in 2026, and one councilmember will have an upcoming campaign launch.

MANASSAS, VA — Looking ahead to 2026 elections, at least one Manassas City Council member has announced intent to seek re-election.
Councilmember Sonia Vasquez Luna, a Democrat, announced she will hold a re-election campaign kickoff at 5 p.m. on Jan. 14. The location is provided to registered attendees.
Vasquez Luna's campaign website outlines her 2025-2029 priorities in three areas: expanding transportation options, local economic growth and thriving communities. The councilmember has also been active on social media to share updates on Manassas-related topics from local government, schools, businesses and other sources.

Vasquez Luna was elected in 2022, becoming the first Hispanic elected to Manassas City Council. Originally from El Salvador, Vasquez Luna came to the U.S. in 2001. Her military family moved to Manassas in 2010, and she has two children attending Manassas City Public Schools. She has served as business manager and other roles at the Laborers International Union of North America Local 572, an executive board member at the Labor Council for Latin American Advancement and elections officer in three Northern Virginia localities.
Three Manassas City Council seats are up for election in 2026 and are currently represented by Vasquez Luna, Councilmember Theresa Coates Ellis and Councilmember Ralph Smith. All Manassas City Council members and the mayor are Democrats, except for Coates Ellis.

For other members of City Council, the next election will be in 2028. Mayor Michelle Davis-Younger was re-elected in 2024 along with now-Vice Mayor Mark Wolfe and Councilmember Tom Osina. Councilmember Ashley Hutson was first elected in 2024.
Other elections on the ballot in 2026 will be three Manassas City School Board seats, U.S. Senator (Sen. Mark Warner's seat) and U.S. House of Representatives 10th congressional district (Rep. Suhas Subramanyam's seat).
