Top Alexandria Schools Official Leaving For Prince William County Role

A top Alexandria City Public Schools official is taking a new executive role in Prince William County.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — A top official with Alexandria City Public Schools is leaving her role to take a position in her home county.

Alicia Hart, who was chief operating officer at ACPS, was appointed as deputy county executive for government operations, performance and innovation in Prince William County. The appointment was announced by Prince William County Executive Chris Shorter.

Hart will begin the role on Nov. 10. Alexandria Times reported last week that Hart resigned from her ACPS position.

According to Prince William County, Hart's role supports several county departments and offices as part of the county's executive team. The position is focused on advancing
"operational excellence and performance improvement initiatives that align with the county’s Strategic Plan and priorities for innovation, transparency and resident-centered service delivery."

“I have a deep personal connection to this community,” said Hart in a news release. "I am long-time resident of Prince William County and a parent of a student in the county’s public school system, and of course, worked for the county earlier in my career. I am thrilled to serve the community in which I live, and I look forward to starting this next step in my career."

Hart brings more than 20 years of experience in public administration, leading operations management, facilities oversight and financial administration and managing the ACPS $500 million 10-year capital budget. At ACPS, she has been chief operating officer and previously executive director of facilities and operations and director of educational facilities. Hart previously served as assistant director of public works, maintenance and operations for Prince William County and senior positions with the Maryland National Capital Parks and Planning Commission. Hart has a Doctor of Business Administration from Walden University, a Master of Business Administration from Strayer University and a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Hampton University.

"Dr. Hart brings an exceptional combination of operational expertise, strategic vision and a deep understanding of public service," said Shorter. "Her experience leading large organizations through transformation and her commitment to innovation and equity will be invaluable as we continue to strengthen government operations and deliver on our promise of effective, resident-focused service."

The chief operating officer position was posted on the ACPS hiring website as of Oct. 14. The deadline to apply is Dec. 1, and the salary range is 183,720 to $225,955.
