Fairfax County Public Schools Makes Feb. 13 Weather Decision

FAIRFAX, VA — With heavy rain expected to blanket Northern Virginia on Tuesday due to a Nor'Easter moving through the Northeast, Fairfax County Public Schools and offices will be opening two hours later than normal.

The unscheduled leave policy will be in effect for all FCPS employees. All telework-eligible employees may telework on Tuesday or take unscheduled leave. Employees are asked to notify their manager or supervisor of their work status.

Central offices will open to the public at 10 a.m.

Fairfax County government offices will also be operating under a different status on Tuesday, as will all federal offices in the Washington, D.C. area.

FCPS posted the following information on its website:

  • Morning preschool (special education) classes are canceled.
  • Afternoon preschool classes start on their regular schedule.
  • Full-day preschool (special education) and Early Head Start/PreK classes start two hours later than the regular schedule.
  • Morning field trips are canceled.
  • Morning transportation for high school academy classes is canceled. Transportation will be provided for academy classes that start after 12:45 p.m.
  • Adult High School and GED courses will start two hours late.
  • Adult and Community Education (ACE) classes will start on time.
  • Homebound and home-based instruction will begin at 10 a.m.
  • School-age child care (SACC) centers will open at 8 a.m
