Water Service Restored, 3 Alexandria Schools To Reopen Wednesday

Three Alexandria schools lost water service because of a broken water pipe that Virginia American Water fixed on Tuesday.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — A lack of water service closed three Alexandria City Public Schools locations Tuesday. The issue was fixed, and the schools will be back open Wednesday.

The school system informed families about the lack of water service at Douglas MacArthur Elementary School, James K. Polk Elementary School and Patrick Henry PreK-8 School due to a broken pipe in the neighborhood. Douglas MacArthur Elementary School is currently in a swing space at the old Patrick Henry School due to a school renovation project.

The school system worked with Virginia American Water, the water utility for Alexandria, on the fix. According to Alicia Hart, the chief of facilities and operations at Alexandria City Public Schools, water has been restored. The three schools will return to a normal schedule on Wednesday.
