John Adams Elementary Gets New Principal

Lakisha Covert will be the new principal at John Adams Elementary School, pending the approval of the Alexandria City School Board.

"I am so excited to join the John Adams family," said Covert, who has served as principal of Lamont Elementary School in New Carrollton, Md., since 2010. "I look forward to getting to know our diverse community and families. I believe that all students deserve a high-quality education every day, and this will be my priority!

The National Association of Elementary School Principals named Covert National Mentor Principal in 2012. She also is the recipient of the 2011 Dr. Jean Phillips Effective Educator Award from Prince George's County Public Schools and the 2009 Outstanding Educator Award from Center City Public Charter Schools in Washington, DC.
