Lane Closures Planned On Duke Street In Alexandria: VDOT Project
A project to repair the Duke Street bridge over I-395 will require lane closures Wednesday, according to VDOT.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — The Duke Street bridge over Interstate 395 project will prompt lane closures Wednesday, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
Westbound Duke Street will have lane closures between South Walker Street and Oasis Drive Wednesday to install temporary striping for a traffic shift. The right lane of westbound Duke Street will be closed starting at 9:30 a.m. followed by the left lane to install temporary striping for the traffic shift. Around 3 p.m., westbound Duke Street traffic along the bridge over I-395 will be shifted to the right until the fall.
VDOT is repairing the Duke Street bridge over I-395 to extend the bridge's life and improve safety for drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians. Crews are replacing the bridge deck and beams, converting the westbound sidewalk to a shared-use path, and widening the eastbound sidewalk. The project is expected to be completed in the winter 2023-2024 season. Another project, the repair of the King Street bridge over I-395, was completed in December 2021.
