Water Main Repairs to Begin at Foxchase Plaza

Residents likely to experience temporary interruption of water service at certain points in the upgrade process.

Virginia American Water is upgrading a water main at Foxchase Shopping Plaza in the West End beginning this month.

Beginning Oct. 9, Virginia American Water will replace approximately 1,200 feet of six-inch pipeline at Foxchase, with a new eight-inch water main. The project is expected to last for about two months.

Crews are scheduled to work weekdays between 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. During work hours, at least one lane of traffic will be open and trash pickup will not be impacted.

The repairs are designed to enhance water quality, improve service reliability and increase flows for fire protection for the community, according to Virginia American Water.

The cost of the water system improvements is approximately $320,000 and will replace aging pipe dating back to the early 1900s. The project is part of about $4 million in infrastructure investments Virginia American Water has made in Virginia in 2013.

During the project, some residents are likely to experience temporary interruption of their water service when individual service lines are changed over to the new main, as well as when the old main is cut and capped.
