Weather Decision Made For Fifth Day At Alexandria City Schools

Snowy weather is in the forecast again after Monday's storm prompted earlier cancellations.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — In-person school is canceled for the another day Friday at Alexandria City Public Schools with snow expected overnight.

Schools and offices will be closed, and activities on school grounds are canceled. All essential personnel, including building engineers, custodians, maintenance shop employees and security staff must still report if conditions are safe.

ACPS has closed in-person learning all week. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday were virtual learning days, which aligns with the school district's new policy for inclement weather. However, Thursday was a day off with no virtual learning and a virtual workday for staff.

Alexandria and the region are under a winter weather advisory from 9 p.m. Thursday to 7 a.m. Friday. The National Weather Service expects 2 to 4 inches of snow with the heaviest snow overnight. Hazardous road conditions may impact the Friday morning commute.

Gov. Ralph Northam issued a state of emergency in preparation for the next winter storm. There was no state of emergency for Monday's storm, which stranded many drivers on I-95 for more than 20 hours, caused widespread outages and heavy snow.
