A new push to ban plastic bags could be in store for Washington (opb.org) — Seattle shoppers could see big changes in checkout bags as city utilities push state lawmakers to close a loophole that’s brought a surge of thicker plastic bags back into local stores. Seattle Public Utilities says residents are frustrated plastic use rose despite earlier city and statewide bans, and the proposed legislation would again prioritize reusable and paper options.

2. Police: Shotgun-wielding suspect hospitalizes 1 after hookah lounge disturbance (king5.com) — A man was seriously injured after being shot with a shotgun near a hookah lounge in Seattle’s Chinatown-International District early Saturday, and the suspect remains at large. Police say the lounge owner also fired a handgun while trying to break up a disturbance, but he was interviewed and released. Anyone with information is urged to contact Seattle police detectives.

BIZNOTE: Pipe break temporarily closes 2 Fingers Social (westseattleblog.com) — A broken pipe has forced West Seattle bar 2 Fingers Social to close for an extended period while crews dig up the sidewalk and street and repair interior flood damage. Owners say the fix is a huge project, are gathering bids, and have already raised some donations to help cover the costs.

The Airline News You Might've Missed — 2nd Week of Jan. 2026 (upgradedpoints.com) — Seattle flyers could see more long-haul options as Alaska Airlines’ record Boeing order aims for 12 international destinations from SEA by 2030, and ANA’s upgraded business class is likely to debut on its Seattle–Tokyo route. The roundup also covers Hawaiian’s airport investments and new aircraft moves by JetBlue and Starlux that may shape future connections through Seattle.
