2 Milwaukee Police Officers, Others Hurt After Chase And Crash

Police arrested a 19-year-old Milwaukee man who fled a traffic stop and struck two cars during a pursuit, police said.

MILWAUKEE, WI — Seven people, including two police officers, were injured when several cars crashed during a chase on Milwaukee's northwest side Monday, the Milwaukee Police Department said.

A 24-year-old police officer and a 35-year-old police officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to a local hospital after crashing their squad car into another car near W. Capitol Avenue and N. Teutonia Avenue during the chase, police said.

The person they were chasing, a 19-year-old Milwaukee man, struck two cars on the 3800 block of N. Teutonia Avenue, police said. Police arrested him after a foot chase and took him to a hospital for minor injuries. It's not clear if charges have been filed.

A 54-year-old Milwaukee man and two others were hurt when the officers' car struck theirs. A 28-year-old Milwaukee woman was taken to a local hospital after the fleeing man's car struck hers, police said.

The chase began when Milwaukee police pulled over a speeding car with no license plates on the 2400 block of W. Atkinson Avenue around 5 p.m. Monday. The driver stopped at first but sped away when officers approached, police said.

The officers who were injured will be put on administrative duty, which is standard for officers involved in critical incidents, police said.

The Milwaukee Area Investigative Team and the Waukesha Police Department will lead the investigation.
