LUMIN Schools Recognized for Innovative, Career-Centered Approach to Education

MILWAUKEE, WI – LUMIN Schools (LUMIN), a Christ-centered, high-performing network of schools serving students in 4K through 8th grade across Milwaukee and Racine, has been named a finalist in BizTimes Media’s 2025 Nonprofit Excellence Awards, an annual recognition program that shines a spotlight on the remarkable impact of southeastern Wisconsin nonprofits. LUMIN was recognized in the “Innovation in Education” category, which honors schools that take bold, creative approaches to preparing the next generation for success in both the workforce and life, with a focus on innovation and measurable results.

Finalists, including LUMIN, will be celebrated at an awards event on Thursday, July 24, at the Italian Community Center (631 E. Chicago St., Milwaukee), from 2:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. An overall winner in each of the 11 award categories will be announced at the event.

This approach comes to life through Opportunity Academy for K–8th grade students and Opportunity Plus for 9–12th grade students—two innovative programs under LUMIN’s ILLUMINATE Brilliant Futures initiative. By embedding career exploration directly into the curriculum through hands-on experiences, mentorship, and identity-driven skill development, LUMIN is laying a powerful foundation for lifelong success.
