Milwaukee-Area Schools Close Amid Winter Storm Warning
Several school districts in Milwaukee County announced closures amid a winter storm warning that begins Thursday morning.
MILWAUKEE, WI — School districts across Milwaukee County on Wednesday announced closures as a winter storm warning goes into effect Thursday morning through Saturday.
Around 3-6 inches of snow could accumulate in the region with steady snow beginning Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service. The snow is will ramp up into the day behind wind gusts of up to 55 mph causing wind chills to plummet to 25-35 below Thursday evening through Friday night, the NWS said.
When winds pick up they could cause blizzard conditions, the NWS said. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches and dangerously cold winds could cause frostbite in as little as 10 minutes, national forecasters warned.

Some districts already planned to be closed on Thursday for winter break, including Greendale schools, while Milwaukee Public Schools have the day set as a professional development and record day.
