WISCONSIN — Haunted houses around the neighborhood are great Halloween fun for impressionable children, but Wisconsin seeking an authentic scare might want to check out The Pfister Hotel.

That’s according to Thrillist, a travel and entertainment media outlet that recently released its list of the 50 (one for each state) most haunted, scariest places in America.

Of The Pfister Hotel, the Thrillist editors said:

“The Pfister is among Milwaukee's finest hotels. Yet many visitors—particularly MLB players—are so creeped out that they're willing to sacrifice the luxury if it means they don't have unwanted roommates. So many MLB players have complained about ghostly encounters—strange knocking and pounding noises, TVs turning on and off, their belongings inexplicably moved—that many now refuse to stay there.”

Business Insider agrees, noting how Adrián Beltré of the Los Angeles Dodgers said he couldn't sleep during his stay at the Pfister because of all the strange noises.

HGTV adds: “Bryce Harper of the Washington Nationals claimed that his belongings and furniture moved while he was sleeping, while Brandon Phillips of the Boston Red Sox said his radio repeatedly turned on for no reason.”

Forbes goes a different route, calling out the Octagon House.

“Despite its architectural allure, Fond du Lac’s unique Octagon House hides a gloomy story,” Forbes notes.

“It’s whispered that a tragic accident claimed the life of one of the owner’s daughters within these walls. Today, visitors report chilling sensations, especially around the stairwell, coupled with the disturbing ring of summoning bells and eerie nocturnal screams.”
