Wisconsin Drivers Among The Most Confrontational In America: Report

A recent report from Forbes Advisor put Wisconsin among the top 15 states with the most confrontational drivers.

WISCONSIN — If you've been driving in Wisconsin for long enough, chances are that you've seen your fair share of rude hand gestures out the windows from other cars.

The same can be said for much of the country as there doesn't seem to be any shortage of bad drivers in America. But a new report shows Wisconsinites might be getting an earful from angry drivers more often than in other states.

According to Forbes Advisor, the Badger State tied with Alabama at No. 13 for most confrontational drivers in America. For the study, the outlet did an online survey of 5,000 drivers who own a car. Each state was scored on several factors, including:

  • If someone bumped or rammed their car on purpose.
  • If someone followed them then got out of their car to yell or fight.
  • If someone forced their car off the road.
  • If someone pointed a gun or shot them.

Now, what's causing people to act out on Wisconsin's roads? Forbes Advisor found the most common reason was that the other driver was driving inappropriately. Other reasons included stress, heavy traffic, running late, and other drivers' incompetency, according to Forbes Advisor.

Utah managed to score the top spot for most confrontational drivers in the report. Over 75 percent of people surveyed in the state told Forbes Advisor they've been honked at out of frustration.

The study's findings come as officials and police in Milwaukee have been working to cut down on the city's reckless driving problem through civil lawsuits, bait cars and more.
