24 Chickens Rescued From 'Poor Living Conditions' At North County Home
First responders found the chickens when their owner in Vista needed to be hospitalized, according to the San Diego Humane Society.

VISTA, CA — Two dozen chickens rescued from poor living conditions at a northern San Diego County home are now available for adoption.
First responders found the 24 chickens July 12 when their owner in Vista needed to be hospitalized, according to the San Diego Humane Society. Due to the heat and poor sanitation, the San Diego Humane Society's humane law enforcement officers impounded the chickens.
The chickens were taken to the organization's Oceanside campus for triage and care, according to the San Diego Humane Society. After they were cleaned, fed and hydrated, the chickens were moved to the organization's Escondido campus, where chickens and other livestock animals are available for adoption. Some of the chickens have been named after famous singers, such as Britney, Cher and Shakira, as well as movie characters like Thelma and Louise.
