As Giving Tuesday approaches, here are five nonprofits in the Carlsbad area to consider supporting.

CARLSBAD, CA — If you're like many of your Carlsbad neighbors, you may spend a good part of the holiday season with your credit card in hand buying gifts for family and friends. Coming up soon is a chance to give back to the local community.

Giving Tuesday, which in 2024 falls on Dec. 3, is a day dedicated to supporting nonprofit and community groups. Since 2012, nonprofits worldwide have used the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to galvanize fundraising, rally volunteers and add momentum to their causes.

Maintaining funding is a constant challenge for many nonprofits that fill gaps and meet other needs in the Carlsbad area.

Boys & Girls Club of Carlsbad

Boys & Girls Club of Carlsbad offers programs that promote and enhance the development of Carlsbad's youth by instilling a sense of belonging, competence, usefulness and influence. The club has served more than 90,000 youth since opening its doors in 1952, according to the organization.

Carlsbad Charitable Foundation

Carlsbad Charitable Foundation, a regional affiliate of San Diego Foundation, works to leverage local leadership, build endowments, increase impactful philanthropy, and promote civic engagement. Since 2008, the foundation has granted more than $1.4 million to over 55 programs, according to the organization.

Carlsbad Educational Foundation

Carlsbad Educational Foundation is a nonprofit organization that was founded in 1983 to raise private support for public education and contribute to the enrichment of nearly 11,000 students in the Carlsbad Unified School District. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded more than $16 million to Carlsbad public schools, primarily for science, technology and music programs, according to the organization.

Carlsbad Library and Arts Foundation aims to seek, cultivate and provide financial support for the library and cultural arts facilities and programs.
