Carlsbad Among Top 25 Safest Cities For Trick-Or-Treating: Report

CARLSBAD, CA — One city in San Diego County ranked among the top 25 safest cities for trick-or-treating this Halloween, according to a new report.

The Chamber of Commerce released its annual "Safest Cities for Trick-or-Treating" study, ranking Carlsbad as the 18th safest city in the country for trick-or-treaters.

Carlsbad ranked among the safest cities because of the city's low crime rate, high number of law enforcement employees and safe streets for pedestrians, according to the study.

The study analyzed key safety metrics across 300 cities, including pedestrian fatalities, property crime, violent crime, the number of law enforcement employees, and the number of registered sex offenders.

Here are the study highlights for Carlsbad:

• Number of registered sex offenders: 3.4 per 10,000
• Violent crime incidents: 18.3 per 10,000
• Property crime incidents: 180.2 per 10,000
• Average annual pedestrian fatalities: 0.05 per 10,000
• Law enforcement employees: 15.5 per 10,000

Naperville, Illinois, ranked as the safest city in the country for trick-or-treating, followed by Gilbert, Arizona, and Frisco, Texas, according to the report. In Southern California, Irvine in Orange County came in as the 10th safest spot. Glendale in Los Angeles County ranked 12th and Murrieta in Riverside County ranked 21st.
