Carlsbad Among U.S. Cities With Highest Quality Of Life: Report

The U.S. Social Progress Map covers all 50 states, the 500 largest U.S. cities, and 32,000 neighborhoods.

CARLSBAD, CA — Carlsbad ranks among the cities with the highest quality of life in the United States, according to a new study from the U.S. Social Progress Map that measures factors like access to opportunity, education, health and safety.

The U.S. Social Progress map measures 50 indicators that affect quality of life, including:

  • Basic human needs: housing, safety, health care, nutrition, basic medical care, water and sanitation, shelter, personal safety and more
  • Foundations of wellbeing: education, environmental quality, access to information and communication
  • Opportunity: personal rights, inclusiveness, and freedom of choice

Carlsbad received an a 69.0 out of 100 for basic needs, 65.2 for foundations of wellbeing, and 61.9 for opportunity, averaging 65.4, according to the report.

San Ramon in the San Francisco Bay Area ranked as the city with the highest quality of life, followed by Pleasanton, also in the Bay Area, with the second highest, according to the study. Centennial, Colorado, ranked third.

The Social Progress Imperative is a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit that created the U.S. Social Progress Map. The map covers all 50 states, the 500 largest U.S. cities, and 32,000 neighborhoods.
