GIA Launches New Scholarship Program For San Diego Area Students

Carlsbad-based Gemological Institute of America is offering up to $2 million in merit-based, needs-based and veteran's scholarships in 2024.

CARLSBAD, CA — The Gemological Institute of America will award up to $2 million in scholarships this year, with a maximum of $100,000 allocated to a new scholarship program for San Diego area high school students.

GIA launched the GIA Aspire Scholarship program for graduating high school seniors or recent alumni from four schools in San Diego County. The program will give partial or full scholarships for any on-campus program at the GIA Carlsbad campus, starting between July and December, according to the Carlsbad-based company.

Students and alumni from Steele Canyon High School in Spring Valley, Rancho Buena Vista High School and Alta Vista High School in Vista, and Health Sciences High and Middle College in San Diego can choose programs that range from seven to 26 weeks.

"We believe that investing in the education of aspiring professionals is key to the continued growth and success of the gem and jewelry industry," said Robyn Burrell, GIA director of financial aid. "By providing opportunities for students to pursue their passion, we aim to create a diverse and skilled workforce that will shape the future of our industry."

GIA's scholarship offerings also include needs-based scholarships and veteran's scholarships.

The spring scholarship application cycle is open through March 31. The fall application cycle runs from Sept. 1-30.
